Health-Engagement Open Lab – Berlin 2025

On 2 December 2025, Berlin will host the Health-Engagement Open Lab, a dynamic, in-person event bringing together patients, families, and researchers to share experiences and co-develop new approaches to living well with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

Organised within the framework of the Stay Healthy Cluster Symposium, the Open Lab is part of a broader effort to strengthen collaboration between scientific research and real-world patient experiences. The event invites people living with IBD, their relatives, and healthcare professionals to engage in open dialogue and participatory workshops.

Exploring Engagement and Co-Creation in IBD Care

Participants will have the opportunity to explore the ENGAGE-IBD Tool, an innovative resource co-created by the International Federation for Crohn’s and Colitis Associations (IFCCA) and the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. This tool supports meaningful patient involvement and helps foster shared decision-making between individuals and their healthcare providers.

The Open Lab will also feature presentations and interactive discussions highlighting the latest findings and initiatives from the miGut-Health EU Project, which is committed to advancing personalised care and understanding the microbiome’s role in intestinal health.

Expert Insights and Interactive Exchange

Renowned experts will guide the discussions, including:

  • Prof. Guendalina Graffigna (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore & EngageMinds HUB), expert in health engagement and patient-centred innovation.
  • Prof. Kostas Gerasimidis (University of Glasgow), researcher in diet, nutrition, and IBD management.
  • Salvo Leone (Chairperson, IFCCA), patient advocate and leader in promoting patient engagement across Europe.

Through interactive sessions and co-creation workshops, participants will exchange lived experiences, generate new ideas, and explore practical strategies on diet, lifestyle, and psychosocial wellbeing.
