GlycanTrigger Scientific Symposium

The GlycanTrigger Scientific Symposium will take place in Porto, Portugal, on 24–25 September 2026. Organised by our sister project GlycanTrigger, the symposium will bring together researchers working in glycobiology, immunology, clinical medicine and glyco-technology.

The programme will explore the role of glycans in immune responses, mucosal homeostasis, host–microbe interactions and chronic inflammatory diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It will also examine the potential of glycans as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers, as well as their role in the prediction and prevention of immune-mediated diseases.

On 25 September, miGut-Health coordinator Prof. Andre Franke will contribute to the programme with a talk entitled “Sister Act: Insights from miGut-Health.” He will present the project’s work on gut health, IBD, biomarkers, personalised prevention and citizen engagement.

The symposium is open to glycoscientists, immunologists, clinicians and students interested in the role of glycans in health and disease.
